-"OperatiOn Neighborhood" is coming to Tidewater!
Sponsored bythe Women's Division of the United Jewish
Federation, the first part of ')peratiol Neighborhood"
will bring nationally-known speakers to neighborhood
coffees where they will share their knowledge of the urgent
need for pledges tothe 1980 UJF Campaign.
THE NEEDS: There has been a20 percent increase in
" ' "t
requests for money from the Allocatmn s Comml tee,
which receives its funds frethe UJF. If the UJF does not
raise enough money to meet its demands, then some
agency must suffer, must cut back on what it can do for the
community.
Most Jewish families participate in and/or benefit from
the programs and sewices of at least one local facility.
These include the Jewish Community Center Day Camp,
after-school activities, teen and adult prolFams, sports, the
prospect of a Virginia Beach Branch of the JCC, the
Hebrew Academy, Jewish Family Service, Beth Sholom,
Russian Resettlement, etc. If these agencies and institu-
tions are to continue to serve, everyone must give. Wallets
must open so agency doors will not close. If everyone gives,
then all needs will be met.
ISRAEL: The highest taxed nation in theworld is Israel
(over 70 percent), where infl{ltion spirals over 13 percent
per MONTH. Funds are needed to better the quality of life
for the people who have elected to live in the ancient
homeland, Decent housing is needed for the many families
who live below the poverty level, Day care centers must be
sustained and the increased cost of education is a constant
strain that must be coped with,
Invitations to the coffees are in your mail. Everyone is
invited and everyone is urged to participate.
