Recently, parents stopped sending their children to the program because were scared to send them on public transportation. Amos has since added a van to transport the children, but has quickly learned the need is greater than transporta- Most professionals are not with the tools needed to the changed reality in Among the new chal- are decreasing budgets to less government funding, greater security concerns of staff and clientele, and increased con- sideration of psychological ele- ments in program development and planning. Professionals dealing with these challenges need to be pro- vided with the skills necessary to adapt and adjust programs in order to respond to the changing needs of the individuals they serve as well as the staff they supervise. Development and implemen- tation of a Crisis Management Course for Senior Managers of Youth Services is underway, to provide senior social service personnel with the tools needed to adapt to this changing reality. The Federation's contribution has enabled JDC to fund a Crisis Management Course for Senior Managers of Youth Services. Registration is currently under- way for this important program. lngrid Edery, Malina Winterton and Rebecca Kaplan work on their masks. 'The Face Behind the Mask' discussion topic at Rosh Chodesh meeting Adar I1 By Jenin Deckard XVhat do you get when you PUt 21 women in a room with art SUPplies, tons of food to nosh on tl a full hour (and then some) u pure creative energy? A great :Vening of fun ! _Rashi Brashevitzky ca, ose The Face Behind the Mask as is month's topic of discussion. he spoke on the hidden beauty each Jewish woman and how ve have a tendency to hide hind our insecurities, as we VOUld wear a mask. Rashi also .tPlained how Esther, thehero- - !he Purim Megillah wore sk to hide her Jewish iden- ty and how she removed that sk at the appropriate time to av the entire Jewish people. t...._ We were each given a mask to decorate and it was quite amaz- ing to see how each woman's personality came through in the way she decorated her mask. Feathers, glitter, decoupage, sequins, and paint.., they all spoke of different aspects in each woman's life. You could see some women had masks that were vibrant and fun loving and others were more subdued and orderly. Perhaps it was a way to delve deeper into ourselves and reflect on who we really are? Or maybe we just needed to get messy and laugh a little! Either way it was a good time had by all and I look forward to our next Rosh Chodesh gathering. In the initial phase of the deal Eldat will supply Casino with millions of labels to be installed in 73 hypermarkets and 21 super- markets. By the deal's comple- tion, labels will be installed in over 400 stores. On signing the contract, Eldat received a $3m. advance from Casino and another $12m. is to be transferred by the end of the year. Casino, with sales of 31 bil- lion euros in 2001, has 115 hypermarkets and 433 supermar- kets in Europe, making it one of the largest supermarket chains on the continent. It owns another 1,000 stores worldwide. When the price of a product is changed, a message is sent from the cash register to Eldat's ESL labels updating the amount. The labels then send back an ackfiowledgement message. The tags do not appear in Israel because under Israeli law, stores are required to place a price stick- er on every item, which is not the case in Europe. Eldat vice president of mar- keting Oron BranitZky said Casi- no chose Eldat's product over two other companies after a year-long evaluation period. "We started a pilot project with Casino in early 2002: 25,000 small and standard labels, plus 130 labels for fruit and veg- etables were installed in a hyper- market in St. Tropez during April 2002. The whole installation of the communication network, rails, and other items took fewer then 10 days. "Casino also tested systems from NCR and French company SES. Our system was chosen both because of the pricing and its features," said Branitzky. "Our ESL has the ability of added plat- form display, crucial for store operations. Besides price, the Eldat lables can also display the amount of stock, delivery date, and facing." Casino placed its order in December 2001 and they were delivered three months later, said Jean Paul Boubal, director of Eldat Europe. "We took advan- tage of those three months to adapt our labels to Casino's spe- cial requirements." Eldat's president and CEO, Yossi Smoler, said the deal is just the latest in a string of successes in France. "During the past few years we have installed nearly one million labels in France, including two integrated chains that carefully studied the market before placing their orders. I believed that the success of those projects will result in further deals." Established in 1994, Eldat Communication, provides com- munication solutions to the retail industry. Its advanTAG* ELS system uses infrared technology based on experience gained in the development of Electronic Defense Systems and Integrated Circuit design (ASIC). So far it has sold over 3.500,000 labels to supermarket chains worldwide. Recently the company, which has only 35 employees, sold its product to the large Japanese supermarket chain Ito Yokado. It is currently seeking deals with the French chain Auchan, and with two Finnish supermarket companies. Judy S.
