and universities. Dr. Berk will
compare the similarities and
differences between today's
insecurities and the rise of anti-
Semitism in the 1930's.
Since it is easy for some to
lay the blame for the violence
in the Middle East at Israel's
doorstep, the Jewish people are
the scapegoat once more.

"Israel has become the touch-
stone of attitudes toward the
Jewish people, and anti-Zion-
ism has become the main and

Holocaust and Jewish Studies
at Union College. Author of
Year of Crisis, Year of Hope:

writing a book that explores
the civil rights movement in
America and the myths and
misconceptions surrounding

ed itself as an International
Criminal Court. On its agenda
is to put Ariel Sharon and other
Israelis on trial for war crimes
when Sharon leaves office and
immunity from prosecution.
Ignored are Belgium's own war
crimes in the Congo, Rwanda
and Somalia where millions
were subjected to starvation,
torture, rape and murder.
The importance of Berk's
message has been expressed by
Lawrence Summers, President
of Harvard University, who
noted on Sept. 17, 2002 that
