June 9, l!}95"--UJF--3 HAT's 40th anniversary celebration honors Sandler Family The Hebrew Academy of Tidewater celebrated its 40th Anniversary by honoring the Sandler Families May 21 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nor- folk. This fund raising event was led by Master of Ceremonies, Pete Decker. Through the efforts of dozens of volunteers throughout the community, the Hebrew Acade- my created a Tribute Book for the Sandler Family, that gener- ated revenues approximating $230,000. The revenues will directly benefit current and future gen- erations of students at the Hebrew Academy. A significant portion of these proceeds will be placed in the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater Foundation, which makes funds available for schol- arships, the school's growing needs and for improvements to the facility. The highlight of the evening was the announcement by Joanne Stein, President of the Board of Directors of the Hebrew Academy, that the Sandler Fam- ily will be making a gift to the school of $350,000. This gift will allow the Hebrew Academy to pay off $200,000 in past debts and create a restricted fnd for the school. It will also place the Hebrew Academy on a path that leads to greater financial securi- ty now and in the future. The 40th Anniversary Tribute Dinner was co-chaired by Terri Sarfan, Shelley Sl6ne and Mar- lene Rossen. Czech Republic to revoke approval of anti-Semitic text ByAlissa Kaplan World Jewish Congress had NEW YORK (JTA) -- The Czech Republic has decided to revoke its endorsement of an anti-Semitic textbook, according to the Czech ambassador to the United States.
