This annual event, sponsored by the Jewish Education Council of the United Jewish Federation, honors Jew- ish educators and special Jew- ish education programs in tile community. Dr. Elster, the ke.ote speaker, is Associate Professor at Baltimore Hebrew Universi- ty. Her topic, "When Jewish Education Comes First," high- lighted what happens in a com- munity where Jewish learning and education really matter. Ellen Weiden, who is com- pleting her first year as chair- person of the Jewish Education Council spoke of the achieve- challenges for this coming year. One example is that programs fi)r teens are on the communi- ty's agenda to be emphasized. Various awards were given.
